Destinations
Tulcea is a city port, multiethnic, with a millennial history. Built on 7 hills and developed like a natural amphitheater it is the gateway to the wonderful Danube Delta – a unique place not only nationally but also internationally.
Some interesting activities: water trips (several hours or even a day) to destinations in the heart of the Danube Delta, walks on the Danube Promenade, visiting the Danube Delta Ecomuseum Center, the Museum of Ethnography and Folk Art or the Art Museum and also of the Independence Monument located in the highest point of the city etc.
Sulina, the eastern point of Romania, is a rich spiritual city, with a special charm and picturesque. A land surrounded by water, enchanted by the spell of the Danube Delta that allows passers-by to discover its fascinating history and countless legends.
Some interesting activities: water trips, walks on the Danube Promenade or on the city streets, visiting the Sulina Lighthouse Museum, relaxing on the crowded beach with fine and well-sorted sand, gaming and bathing in the sea water, fishing on the waterfront, tasting local & traditional dishes etc.
Sfântu Gheorghe, the surprising village located at the end of the homonymous Danube arm, is the place where the mix of people, paths, beach, Black Sea and Danube have the power to give you a special inner comfort, to make you feel like at “grandparents” home.
Some interesting activities: water trips, walks on the streets of the picturesque village, visiting the mini-port, relaxing on the crowded beach with fine and well-sorted sand, gaming and bathing in the sea water, fishing on the waterfront, tasting local & traditional dishes etc.
Letea is the best preserved deltaic village, with an architecture detached from stories. The houses with whitewashed walls, covered with reeds, with blue pieces of carpentry and fences, fruit trees and sandy streets delight us at every step of the way.
Some interesting activities: walks on the “dusty” streets, tasting local dishes, safari in the Letea Forest – the most northern subtopical forest in Europe and the oldest natural reservation in Romania, with secular oaks, greek vines, sand dunes and wild/free horses etc.
Cardon is a small fisherman’s village located on Grindul Letea. Almost forgotten by the world, now it has only 5 inhabitants, but a few houses are still there and show (shy) it’s beauty to the passers-by. Relatively recently, a hermitage dedicated to the Annunciation, was built in the area.
Some interesting activities: short walk on the main street, contemplation, tasting local dishes or even enjoying a coffee on the waterfront bordered by water lilies and reeds with silence or frog music in the background, safari in Letea Forest – with secular oaks, greek vines, sand dunes and wild/free horses etc.
Mila 23, the birthplace of the multiple olympic canoe champion – Ivan Patzaichin, is the place where every sunrise and sunset, together with flocks of birds like pelicans, cormorants, egrets and also with the frog concert make you feel like in a fairy tale.
Some interesting activities: walks on the Danube Promenade or on the narrow alleys bordered by flowers, visiting the Lotca Floating Museum, observing the mark of the inhabitants – bluish lipovan houses, fishing on the waterfront, tasting local dishes or even enjoying a coffee on a floating bar etc.
Caraorman is an “airy” village, with well-kept households and large gardens. It retains its specificity through the rustic charm given by the reed roofs and also by other household annexes built of the same material.
Some interesting activities: wandering on the wide streets, visiting the oldest wooden church from Danube Delta, tasting local dishes, safari in the desert landscape given by the moving sand dunes and in the Caraorman oak Forest (stars are: kneeling oak, table of silence) etc.
